During the first half of 2015 NZ exported 701,000t of whole milk powder (WMP) and 201,000t of skim milk powder (SMP). The combined total this year is approximately 27,000t lower than the same period in 2014.

WMP exports are 8% lower while SMP exports are 19% higher. WMP exports to China are 61% lower than a year ago. Despite the large drop in volume NZ has actually gained market share in the China WMP import market. NZ's market share has climbed to 98% leaving little room for any other suppliers.

Exports to virtually every other nation are higher. WMP exports to North African countries are 90% greater than a year ago. NZ has also exported a lot more milk powder than usual into South America, South East Asia, and to Sub-Saharan Africa.

Exports of SMP have increased into South East Asia and the Middle East.
