Around 1130 cattle were at the Matawhero fair last Tuesday. Older cattle in good condition sold well and strengthened compared to the previous sale. In the R2 steer pens, 500kg traditional lines met strong demand to reach $3.22-$3.27/kg with the bottom end steady at $3.06-$3.16/kg. The R2 traditional heifer average improved to $2.78/kg. Only a small portion of R1 steers exceeded 200kg and traded at $720-$810, $3.33/kg to $3.47/kg and 185-190kg, $660-$720. R1 heifers were in light condition with the majority around $280-$380.
