The Wanganui farmer was the chairman of the NZ Farm Environment Trust at the time of his death after a short illness in early June.
He had a long history of leadership in the agricultural sector as a former national president of Federated Farmers, a Government-appointed special agricultural trade envoy and Nuffield scholar. He also served on Primary ITO, the National Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, Veterinary Council of New Zealand, NZ Landcare Trust, Waitotara Meat Company and PPCS (later Silver Fern Farms).
