A 76 hectare dairy farm sitting right on the edge of Palmerston North’s city boundary represents potential long-term investment prospects for a new owner while generating a good income.

The farm on Gillespies Line has been owned by the Manderson family for more than six decades and in recent times the estate has been running it as a low-input dairy farm.

Bill Milham from Bayleys said Peter Manderson originally bought the property and while farming it, developed a facial eczema remedy to treat his cows. Manderson's Mix was still popular for the condition, he said. The family were also members of the Friesian Breeders' Society with their Lucky Hollow Holstein Friesian stud for many years.

Today the flat farm has potential for long-term investors because of its location, several titles, and a 3.47ha parcel of native bush adding to its aesthetic appeal, he said.

"It's a lovely little block of land and I see it being bought by someone looking long-term at its potential because of its location. In the meantime it's generating income as a dairy farm."

A 50:50 sharemilker is in place until the end of this season and the farm is operating with minimal supplements and once-a-day milking. The dairy operation has achieved good per cow production from the predominantly Friesian herd which has a long breeding history.

The milking platform makes up 64ha of the farm, with young stock on the balance of the effective area. Fertile Kairanga soils provide an ideal base for good pasture growth and crops when required. A good water supply is sourced from an artesian bore next to to the farm and reticulated to the dairy and troughs.

A central race from the 41 paddocks enables easy access to the 17-aside herringbone dairy which is supported by a three-bay implement shed and a good-size haybarn with a lean-to calf-rearing facility.

The farm can be viewed at www.bayleys.co.nz. Tenders close on November 20. For further information contact Milham on 06 350 6056 or 027 443 3324.
