Inaugural Green Ag Innovation award winners announced

An impressive pool of winners has been announced in the inaugural Green Agriculture Innovation Awards (GAIA). Judges say there were blown away with the high calibre of entries that made judging a challenge.

“The upside from this process is an impressive pool of winners from across the country who truly showcase that a focus on soil health leads to quadruple bottom line benefits,” awards spokeswoman Nicole Masters said.

“The winners represent some top producing ecological driven enterprises in the country, if not the world we say.” 

The Healthy Soils supreme award will be chosen from the category winners and announced on the evening of the first awards dinner event at Rotorua on August 6.

The South Island awards dinner will be held in Christchurch on August 8.

The category award winners announced this week are:

Agrisea Dairy Award – Bio Farm, Cathy and Jamie Tait-Jamieson, Palmerston North. Silver Nick and Jo Collins, Piopio.

BioSea Horticulture Award – Wairarapa Eco Farm, Wairarapa. Silver Rambler Flowers,Tony Robinson,Palmerston North.

Rotorua District Council Maori Producer Award – Kono Beverages, Marlborough. Silver – Mills Farm, Warren and Marina Strioukova, Kaitaia.

Bio Ag Pastoral Award – David Crutchley, Otago. Silver – Te Mania Stud, Tim Wilding, Kaikoura.

Integrity Soils Consultant Award – Rob Flynn, Soil Matters, Amberley. Silver – Robin Boom, Agronomic Advisory Services, Waikato.

Be Pure Paddock to Plate Award – Lindsay Road Dairy, Central Hawke’s Bay. Silver – Frank and Josje van Steensel, Wairarapa Eco Farm.

TM Agricultural Innovation Award – Frank and Josje van Steensel, Wairarapa Eco Farm. Silver – David Crutchley, Shortlands Station, Otago.

Agsolutionz Transition Award – William Grigg, Marlborough. Silver – Tim Hawke, North Canterbury.

Soil Foodweb Viticulture Award – Bruce Nimon, Kokako Vineyard, Hawkes Bay. Silver – Anna and Jason Flowerday, Marlborough.

Viafos Youth Award – Genevieve Stevens, Christchurch. Silver – James Crutchley, Otago.
