Have your say on science funding

Submissions are being sought on the Government’s National Statement of Science Investment. The draft statement was released in May, and outlines the goals the Government wants to achieve through investment in science. A feedback form can be downloaded here. Completed forms can be emailed to NSSI@mbie.govt.nz by August 22.

Some of the goals include ensuring value by focusing on relevant science with the highest potential for impact for the benefit of New Zealand, increasing focus on sectors of future need or growth, and increasing the scale of industry-led research.

Feedback is now being sought on the draft statement through an online questionnaire.

It gives people the chance to comment on issues such as the balance of funding between universities, Crown research institutes, and private research organisations.

It also asks what areas should receive the most research funding, and how performance should be evaluated.
