Germany swaps from PSA to public intervention for SMP

Offerings of EU skimmed milk powder (SMP) proved more popular into the public intervention scheme than private storage aid for the week ending August 23, 2015.

Belgium ramped up its offerings of SMP into public intervention (PI) with 1581 tonnes being entered. The second highest volume for the country was two weeks earlier with 864t being entered.

Germany, which has generally offered SMP into Private Storage, instead offered 264t of SMP in PI during the week, the first offering by the country for this intervention period.

Other offerings of SMP into PI came from Poland at 406t.  

The week saw 2251t of SMP being offered into the scheme, just behind the week before of 2266t which was the highest volume offered over the 6 weeks where product has been offered into the scheme.

Private Storage saw the lowest offerings of SMP since May with a total of 243t for the week ending August 23.

Only Ireland and the Netherlands offered SMP into storage with 195t and 48t respectively.

These two countries continued offering butter into PSA at large volumes with Ireland offering 1820t and the Netherlands offering 2822t for the week. Other offerings came from Lithuania (890t), Belgium (793t), Germany (201t) and the UK (153t). France remained absent from the scheme for the second week in a row after consecutive offerings over the previous 32 weeks.
