“If the focus is on the people and creating a positive, productive workplace culture everyone will benefit,” project manager and workshop presenter Lynda Clark said.

That was the philosophy behind the DWN’s human resources module being offered at free to attend workshops throughout New Zealand next month.

“Working in the field of farm-focused human resources for a while now, I can say most farmers are truly appreciating people are their greatest asset.

“We have a young workforce, with 44% of farm assistants being aged 24 years or younger,” Clark said.

“Young people have different influences in their lives.

“They want a positive, productive workplace culture and a good work environment today, not in 20 years’ time.

“We really believe that a positive team culture and good morale makes a big difference to productivity,” she said.

The module would also cover what decent employers and employees looked like and how they behaved, creating a win-win situation for both employer and employee.

Various roster options would be explored as part of the workshops.

There would be take-home tools and tips to ensure those who attended the sessions had the chance to put what they learnt at the workshop into practice in their own businesses.

The workshop was developed by a team of dairy women with passion and experience in human resources.

Clark will be assisted with the workshops by Whangarei’s Pinny Farms director and DWN regional co-convenor Cara Pinny, Dairy NZ’s Veronica Briggs and DWN regional convenors Alison Ferris (North Island) and Rebecca Miller (South Island).
