Dairy product prices fall 1.2% in GDT event 110

Dairy product prices fell 1.2% in the second GDT auction in February this year, led by anhydrous milk fat and butter while prices for skim milk powder and whole milk powder fell slightly.

The GDT price index dropped 1.2% compared to the last sale two weeks ago.

The average winning price was US$5016/tonne, down from US$5042/t in the last sale.

The anhydrous milk fat index fell 4.5%. AMF sold at US$5255/tonne in contract 2, the price which the NZX Futures settles against.

The whole milk powder index fell 0.3%. WMP sold at an average price of US$4999/tonne across all sellers and delivery periods. Fonterra regular WMP for April delivery traded at US$4950/tonne.

The skim milk powder index fell 0.1%. SMP sold at an average price of US$4780/tonne across all sellers and delivery periods. Fonterra medium heat SMP contract 2 increased in price to US$5120/tonne. However, prices for Fonterra supplied SMP for June to August delivery eased back. DairyAmerica product generally eased in price, especially for nearby delivery.
