Dairy and beef stocks fill US freezers

Cheese stocks in United States refrigerated warehouses on January 31, 2016, were up 3% from the previous month and up 12% from January 31, 2015, according to figures released yesterday by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Agricultural Statistics Board, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Butter was up 26% from last month and up 32% from a year ago. Total frozen poultry supplies on January 31, 2016 were up 5% from the previous month and up 11% from a year ago.

Total stocks of chicken were down 4% from the previous month but up 13% on last year while turkey in freezers were up 44% from last month and up 3% from January 31, 2015.

Total frozen fruit stocks were down 8% from last month but up 8% from a year ago. Total frozen vegetable stocks were down 6% from last month but up 6% from a year ago.

Total red meat supplies in freezers were up 9% from the previous month and up 7% from last year. Beef stocks in freezers were up 1% from the previous month and up 5% from last year.

Total beef is a record high for the month of January, since the data was first recorded in 1915.

Frozen pork supplies were up 17% from the previous month and up 7% from last year. Total pork was also a record high for the month of January. Stocks of pork bellies were up 14% from last month and up 13% from last year.
