The protein shake-up Among the people who engage with Farmers Weekly on social media, it’s difficult to find someone who doesn’t like meat.
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Farming folk love a good steak, as do billions of people around the world.

But the number of people who don’t, or who are ambivalent about where their protein comes from, is growing fast.

A new emerging proteins network has been started here to ensure New Zealand is on the front foot as these novel foods gain traction.

They’ve looked around the world and noted the percentage of people cutting down on their meat intake is on the rise.

Now, the time when animal protein is completely off the menu is a long way off, if it ever happens at all.

But that’s no reason to keep our heads in the sand. NZ food producers haven’t got where they are now by standing still, and shouldn’t now.
