China's imports of WMP in January – April this year have averaged 76% growth compared to last year. Import volumes in May were below the average this year, at 52%.

WMP import volumes in May totalled over 67,000 tonnes down from more than 88,000 tonnes in April. The 24% decline is above the average in recent years, where declines at this time of the year average 14%.

The month-on-month decline of import volumes in May is part of a seasonal trend which tends to peak in the early and late parts of the year.

Monthly growth compared to last year is below average levels this year, while volumes have declined compared to April at larger rates compared to the average in previous years. This points toward a slowdown in Chinese demand beyond seasonal factors this May.
