Butter volumes entering PSA lowest for the year

Butter volumes entered into Private Storage Aid (PSA) for the week ending October 4, 2015 were the lowest for any week in the 2015 calendar year so far. Butter stocks at the end of August broke the 100,000t mark.

Skim milk powder (SMP) volumes offered into EU public intervention totaled 1342 tonnes.

One third of the total volume came from Lithuania, which offered 450t for the week. France offered 376t, Belgium 264t, Latvia 180t and Ireland offered its lowest volume in 5 weeks of 72t. No SMP was offered by Germany for the first time in six weeks. Poland also didn’t offer any SMP into the scheme for the second consecutive week after offering product over the previous nine weeks.

Private storage aid (PSA) absorbed a total of 1014t of SMP for the week.  Czech Republic offered the largest quantity with 384t, followed by Germany and France with 200t each. Lithuania offered 164t of SMP into the scheme for the week.

At the end of August 2015 there was 24,958t of SMP in PSA. For the month of August, 2624t entered into the scheme and 1138t moved out of the scheme.

Volumes of butter entered into PSA were at the lowest level for the year. A total of 1046t was entered for the week. Ireland contributed most of that volume, offering 565t of butter. Germany offered 179t, the Netherlands offered 159t, UK offered 80t, and Poland offered 63t.

A total of 22,742t of butter moved into the scheme for the month of August and 12,039t moved out of the scheme. There was a total of 100,447t of butter in storage at the end of August.
