Balclutha sale March 30

The curse of the long weekend meant low numbers of sheep were offered at Balclutha on Wednesday, Barry Osborne from PGG Wrightson reported.

Buyer numbers were also limited, but prices held as supply met demand.

Top prime lambs made $89-$99, medium $78-$87, lighter $70-$77.

In the ewe pens the better primes made $65-$72, medium lines $58-$64, lighter $46-$55. Lower condition lines fetched $35. Two-tooth ewes sold for $50-$65 and males $25-$45.

Store lamb numbers were also low and sold to limited demand.

Top lines of both shorn and woolly lambs sold for $59-$65, medium $53-$58, bottom cut $43-$45. Ewe lambs topped the sale at $74.50.
