Australian production disappoints

Australian dairy processors hoping to take advantage of high global dairy commodity prices will be dissappointed by the low volumes of milk being produced this season. During October 1,007.6 million litres of milk was processed 4.9% less than in the same month in 2012.  Across the first four months of the production season (July-October) production across Australia was down by 4.1% Output in all of the six states is tracking behind last season’s levels.  Output in Victoria, Australia’s main milk producing state, was down 4.4% in October. The western part of the province of Victoria is showing the biggest decline down by more than 7% in October and on a season to date basis.
