Aussie consumers switch back to full cream milk

Sales of packaged milk in Australia have grown this season with strong demand for full cream milk.

Total milk sales for the month of March 2015 was 213.337 million litres, an increase of 0.6% compared to March 2014. Since the beginning of July 2014 milk sales have increased by 0.6% over the same time period in the previous 12 months.

Growth has increased the most in Western Australia were sales increased by 2.7% compared to March 2014. Strong growth was also recorded in March for Tasmania when sales were up 1.6% bringing the season to date total to 2.7%

On a season to date basis, sales of Full Cream milk have increased by 3.4% while sales of UHT milk are up 2.7% compared to the same period last year. Full Cream milk has increased by 4.4% and UHT milk increased by 2.6% in March compared to March last year. The increase in sales of Full Cream milk has come at the expenses of sales of Reduced Fat and No Fat milk which are down 4.5% and 5.8% respectively this season.
