Ballance Agri-Nutrients aginformation general manager Graeme Martin says the business has rapidly progressed strategic partnerships to increase the range of data and the value of the online system to farmers.

“Farmers are constantly managing information, such as fertiliser recommendations, milk production statistics, feed plans, water use, and livestock weights and movements.

“They have to operate within government and council regulations and other compliance requirements and they are all working to their own farm goals and budgets.

“Our aim is to bring all this information together in an integrated way to support them to make good management decisions, knowing they have a single, reliable source of good data.”

Ag Hub, available through any internet connected device including smartphones and tablets, provides users with a complete view of their property over four aspects – production, environment, fertiliser, and nutrition.

Through GPS and automatic telemetry the system can measure and control water, irrigation and effluent and measure things like soil moisture and weather conditions. Ag Hub also displays livestock weights, kill sheets, and fertiliser applications.

It has just partnered with cloud accounting firm Xero to add accounting tools to Ag Hub’s package, focusing on livestock management.

Martin says teaming up with industry partners ensures farmers are getting the maximum value from the Ag Hub system, from compliance right through to farm financials.

“For example, Ag Hub is partnering with Environment Canterbury and Waikato, Otago, and Horizons regional councils so farmers can track their water use and remain within consents limits.

“Water use and water quality are covered in partnerships with Watermetrics, Harvest and Smart Farm Systems. The system is also valuable for nutrient tracking and particularly effluent management on dairy farms.”

  • Partnerships with Harvest, Tru-Test, and Gallagher enable farmers to easily access information on livestock weights and milk production while a partnership with National Animal Identification and Tracing (NAIT) allows for streamlined stock movement reporting.
  • Extra milk production information is made available through partnering with Fonterra, Miraka, Synlait, and Open Country.

Ag Hub is teaming up with NIWA to provide a comprehensive 15-day weather forecasting service – Ag Hub FarmMet – which will bring Ag Hub users weather accuracy to a 1.5km resolution of an individual property. FarmMet will be available to Ag Hub subscribers by the end of the year.
