A very small yarding of prime cattle sold on an easing market at Canterbury Park on Tuesday.

Good heavy traditional and exotic prime steers made $2.89-$2.97/kg, though most sold for $2.77-$2.85/kg. Forward store steers, 440-530kg, earned $2.90-$3.09/kg with good demand continuing for traditional types. Five big Angus heifers, 632kg, returned $2.83/kg, with another nine heifers, 410-590kg, fetching $2.71-$2.80/kg.

A couple of big Friesian cows, 892kg, returned $1.60/kg, 522-600kg $1.79-$1.88/kg.

A bigger yarding of store lambs met a large crowd of keen buyers and prices were firm to lifting by up to $5/head. The majority lifted with prices $89-$97 and most lambs earned more than $80.

A medium yarding of prime lambs sold on a par. Heavy lambs earned $120-$135, medium $112-$118, light $100-$108.

A larger yarding of ewes was offered and prices lifted $3-$5 across all grades. Top ewes fetched $98-$116, medium $78-$90, light $60-$70.
