New Zealand Young Farmers (NZYF) has launched a campaign the organisation hopes will get the showcase rural event back on live coverage prime time television in future.

The call for all of rural NZ to tune into TV1 this Sunday at 3pm would show through ratings the importance of showcasing agriculture on NZ television, NZYF chief executive Terry Copeland said.

The television show once used to be screened live to air on a Saturday night but this time slot had been pushed out and now this year, for the first time ever, it would screen a week later, following the grand final held in Timaru last weekend, he said.

“We are grateful to TVNZ for screening our show but would urge our entire farming fraternity, old and young to tune into the show so that we send a clear message that agriculture programmes like this one that showcase the very best in our industry belong on television.

“With the Government investing time and money into growing skilled employees in the primary industry to meet export targets, this kind of show is an important portal into every New Zealander’s living room and needs to be supported by all those invested in agriculture,” Copeland said.
