All three were sold by one vendor.

Houghton's is in the centre of the late C W Smith's lower Whangaehu Valley holdings about 17km south of Wanganui. The 113ha farm sold for $3m after the bidding opened at $1.5m.

It has 70ha of flats with the balance easy hills and is fenced into 16 paddocks. Carbon credits have been claimed on about 9ha of 20-year pine trees.

Water is supplied from an artesian bore.

Farm buildings consist of a very good four-stand open board woolshed with a large implement shed attached plus a further implement shed near the homestead. There are also sheep and cattle handling facilities.

The four-bedroom home has a spacious living area and the master bedroom has an en suite with spa bath. It has an extensive north facing deck and attached double garage.

"Houghton's is farmed traditionally with breeding ewes and cattle finishing,” PGG Wrightson agent Doug Glasgow said.

The Station sold for $1.9m after opening at $1.3m.

The 157ha bareland sheep and beef farm has about 35% flats with the balance easy hills. It is fenced into nine paddocks and has artesian bore water in troughs on the flats with the hills watered from dams.

The land has use of sheep and cattle yards that were part of the railway station.

The 29ha Rangi's/Taylor's is bare land in a prime dairying area and best suited to dairy or intensive cropping.

It is mainly flat land divided into nine paddocks with access from two roads. Water is troughed from an artesian bore.

The two bigger blocks sold to a dairy farmer who has a farm between them. The 29ha block was sold to another neighbouring dairy farmer.

Glasgow said a lot of land in the Wanganui district is going into dairy support but there is still good interest in sheep and beef farms.

A 211ha sheep and beef unit with good flats in the Turakina Valley had just sold for $1.9m after being on the market for a long time.
