The Australasian organisation specialises in irrigation, water tanks, pumps and filtration, fire protection and home and garden installations.

Northland’s new franchisees are Cam Walker, a drain layer and roofer, and his uncle, Waikato investor Colin Hannah.

They manned the stand at field days, along with technical sales manager Patrick White.

Walker has a lifetime involvement in water management, beginning with a drainage apprenticeship alongside his father, Robbie Walker, the manager of the Maungatapere community irrigation scheme, which delivers to 200 horticultural properties.

Think Water Northland intends to work in irrigation developments in Northland and farm dairy effluent systems, Walker said.

The Northland Regional Council is open to irrigation development and there are many areas in the province where irrigation would boost primary production.

The only two irrigation schemes in the province are Maungatapere and Kerikeri, both built by the Ministry of Works in the 1980s and sold to co-operatives of the users about 1990.

Centre-pivot irrigation development on Sweetwater Station near Awanui in the Far North to boost milk production has been proposed by Landcorp, the manager, and Maori owners.

Walker and Hannah said the franchise structure enabled them to draw on environmental specialists and engineers, as well as partnerships with leading suppliers nationally and internationally.
