R2 steers and heifers made up most of the yarding, with heifer numbers bulked up by cull dairy lines. Rain brought more confidence to the market and beef prices lifted.
Angus and Hereford steers, 315-382kg, fetched $2.96-$3.05/kg, while Hereford-Friesian, 337-424kg, made $2.82-$2.88/kg. Angus heifers sold right up with their brothers at $2.86-$2.96/kg for 365-419kg, while Hereford, 412-443kg, made $2.70-$2.77/kg. A big offering of Hereford-Friesian mainly sold for $2.67-$2.79/kg for the better types, and $2.50-$2.58/kg for the next cut. Dairy heifers, 323-435kg, largely made $2.03-$2.21/kg.
Weaner bulls were the other section of significance, though with a clash of sale days with a calf sale in Palmerston, interest was limited and prices softer. Friesian, 93-120kg, made $260-$400, 140kg-plus $440-$550.
