Tanker spreads slurry in a hurry

With a range of capacities up to 14,000 litres and integrated spreading systems, Fliegl VFW tankers set the new benchmark in the efficient transport and distribution of slurry.

gineered tankers present an innovative solution to one of the less glamorous tasks associated with intensive livestock production.

“Traditionally, slurry tankers have only been regarded as a method of getting rid of waste product,” he says.

“Fliegl has turned this concept on its head by addressing not only how this waste can be handled efficiently, but how its nutrient value can be fully used.

“In many ways, VFW tankers are probably better described as being fertiliser distributors than slurry tankers.”

All components of the high-capacity tankers have been engineered to achieve rapid and efficient filling, transport and distribution.

Standard features include a 15cm suction valve with quick coupler, self-emptying siphon, liquid level indicator, anti-sloshing baffle, on-board hose storage and 600mm access hole for easy cleaning.

Options include an automatic coupling system, turbo assist with elephant arm for faster filling and a hydraulic agitator to improve material flow and prevent blockages.

The tanker can be fitted with splash plates, dribble bars or disc injectors.

“A splash plate is the most cost-effective way of applying effluent to the ground, although the nitrogen can volatilise and cause problems with odours,” Blair says.

“The optional dribble bars, available from nine to 18 metres, apply effluent directly to pastures or soil, preventing unnecessary losses.

“The unique, patented disc injector, available from three to eight metres, maximises nitrogen efficiency, reducing or even eliminating the need for conventional fertilisers, as well as reducing the risk of contaminating waterways.

“Less ammonia and unpleasant odours are emitted to the atmosphere, which helps to keep the neighbours happy.”

The tanks can also be fitted with the Fliegl Comfort control system with integrated hydraulics and flow meters for more precise application.

Despite its impressive capacity, the VFW has a surprisingly modest width of just 2.5 metres, allowing easy passage through standard farm gates.

Fliegl agricultural trailers are distributed through the CLAAS Harvest Centre network in New Zealand and Australia.
