Molkerei Ammerland chief executive Ralf Hinrichs said the company was pleased with the results from the first SWP online auction.

“Through GDT we have been able to extend our reach to a larger number of customers, and to transact with them much faster. We’re looking forward to using GDT to grow our export market,” he said.

Molkerei Ammerland, a leading European dairy co-operative, has more than 2000 farmer-suppliers from northwest Germany.

Through state-of-the-art production facilities, it processes more than 1.5 billion kilograms of milksolids for export to more than 50 countries.

GDT director Paul Grave said the online auction had set a credible market-based benchmark price for globally-traded SWP at US$1295 a tonne.

“GDT provides a global benchmark price for products sold on the platform. Today’s auction has given both sellers and buyers of SWP an open-market price point for the first time. I believe the industry will benefit from the improved price transparency that GDT offers.”

“We’re pleased to have a leading European dairy company introduce SWP to GDT, as we move towards meeting the strong demand for whey powder on the platform,” Grave said.
