A 339ha sheep and beef farm near Nelson’s Lake Rotoiti, often admired by local farmers, is for sale and has the potential for dairy support or part dairy conversion.

Seventy hectares of flats lie among medium hill country, adding up to 270ha effective that has been running a conservative 2700 stock units including 800 breeding ewes and 142 breeding cows and heifers. All lambs are finished on the farm, with tailing results up to 149% and lambs averaging 17-18kg at slaughter, while 18-month bulls average 280-300kg.

Greg Daly from Greg Daly Real Estate said the farm was a good-shaped block that lay well to the sun, in a growing dairy area. Situated just north of St Arnaud at Lake Rotoiti, the farm is an hour from Nelson and a little more than an hour from Blenheim.

"It's a quality finishing property that has been conservatively farmed in recent years. It's often been admired but rarely been available."

Potential for irrigation existed from a couple of gullies on the farm running water year-round with sufficient fall to run a gravity system, he said.

About 426 bales of balage are made each year on the farm and Daly said it had the scope to produce another 120 or so bales. Though the farm had not been growing crops, he said impressive winter crops were grown in the area.

A five-bedroom, two-storied homestead is home base on the farm, with further accommodation in an older two-bedroom cottage. Other facilities on the farm include a four-stand woolshed with covered yards for 1200 sheep, four haysheds of three to six bays each, a four-bay implement shed and workshop, a deer shed, cattle yards and fertiliser bin.

The farm is for sale at $2.7 million plus GST if any. For more information contact Daly on 027 783 594 or afterhours on 03 762 6463. It can be viewed at www.gregdalyrealestate.co.nz.
