The prime section of the sale took little of the auctioneer’s time. High-yielding Hereford-Friesian steers, 500-600kg, made top dollar at $2.80-$2.81/kg, plainer types $2.66-$2.75/kg. The better heifers were also Hereford-Friesian, 555-585kg, and earned$2.70-$2.72/kg, Angus-cross and Belted Galloway $2.68-$2.69/kg. R3 Angus fetched $1100, $2.50/kg.

A good sized offering of beef and dairy cows met solid demand and prices were steady. Beef cows returned $1.96-$2.09/kg, though one line of scanned empty Hereford, 440kg, went to $2.22/kg. Vetted-in-calf Friesian and Friesian-cross sold well and top lines made $2.05/kg, medium $1.63-$1.81/kg. Jersey and Jersey-cross realised $1.44-$1.76/kg. Scanned empty lines were variable with better Friesians up to $1.70-$1.84/kg, lesser lines $1.51-$1.65/kg. Vetted-in-calf dairy heifers also came forward in good numbers, though prices reflected limited demand. Friesian-cross, 297-290kg, were the pick, making $1.51-$1.72/kg, most other types $1.40-$1.55/kg. Angus-cross, 425kg, sold for $2.49/kg, better empty Friesian heifers $2.03-$2.14/kg.

Store cattle made up most of the yarding, with R2 cattle coming forward in good numbers. In the steer pens, 560kg Hereford-Friesian sold for $1550 to top the section, Angus-Friesian, 360-376kg, $1070-$1120, $2.96-$2.97/kg. Most other lines traded at $2.79-$2.87/kg for 340-430kg. R2 heifer values held at $2.63-$2.69/kg for the top lines, with one line of 280kg Hereford making $830, $2.96/kg. Friesian and Hereford-Friesian, 275-302kg, earned $600-$710, $2.34-$2.42/kg.

R2 bulls sold well with most making $2.68-$2.80/kg.

The weaner and R1 pens were mostly dairy-beef, though a standout line of Angus, 166kg, fetched $580, $3.49/kg. Hereford-Friesian, 137-223kg, returned $530-$730, Hereford, 150kg, $560. R1 heifers were all beef-cross and sold for $510-$630, beef bulls $560-$705, dairy $300-$685.
