A small offering of R2 steers sold very well. All were beef-Friesian or Hereford-cross, 510-540kg, and made $2.81-$2.89/kg. A line of prime Angus-Friesian heifers, 480kg, earned $2.70/kg.

The R2 section was the biggest though ages ranged from 15- to 20-month. Heavy Hereford-Friesian and Hereford-cross steers sold to similar levels as primes, with the top line reaching $1540. The next cut of beef-Friesian, 455-480kg, fetched $2.83-$2.98/kg. As weights dropped cpk prices came up for better quality lines, with Angus, 301kg, and Simmental, 380kg, both reaching $3.02-$3.05/kg. Just one line sold below $2.60/kg.

Purebred Red Devon and Hereford were the main feature in the bull section. Red Devon, 431-490kg, earned $2.97-$3.40, Hereford, 411kg, $3.94/kg. Other better types made $2.80-$2.84/kg for Friesian and Simmental-cross. Jersey-cross and Friesian-cross fetched $2.50-$2.54/kg.

The top R2 heifers were Hereford-Friesian and Angus-Friesian, 345-435kg, which sold for $2.69-$2.70/kg. Friesian-cross, 495kg, returned $2.58/kg. Lighter lines, less than 400kg, also made $2.62-$2.70/kg, while a young line of Simmental, 261kg, earned $750, $2.87/kg. One line of in-calf Simmental sold for $1290, $2.67/kg.

R1 steer numbers were low, but bigger offerings of bulls and heifers made up the numbers. The steers were forward types with weight. Beef-Friesian, 135-211kg, realised $610-$750, Angus-Murray Grey, 327kg, $900. Autumn-born Angus-Friesian, 122-185kg, fetched $380-$640. Heavy Friesian bulls, 240-320kg, made $730-$840. The lighter line exceeded $3/kg, such is the demand for Friesian bulls. Younger lines sold just as well, with 185-210kg earning $640-$690, 132-145kg $505-$515. Hereford-Friesian bulls, 205-171kg, earned $630-700, purebred Hereford, 220-273kg, $1200-$1400, more than $4.30/kg. Jersey bulls were also strong, with 227kg selling for $800, $3.51/kg. Heifers sold well for what was offered. The picks were purebred Angus and Hereford, 135-137kg, $510-$620, and Hereford-Friesian, 125-184kg, $450-$615. Autumn-born lines were all dairy-beef cross and sold for $200-$400.

A small offering of beef cows sold to good demand, though at less than $2/kg. Empty Red Devon made $1.91/kg, run-with-the-bull Angus-cross and Hereford-cross $955-$1139, $1.91-$1.94/kg. In-milk Friesian-cross, 395-451kg, earned $1.62-$1.68/kg, and their empty sisters made $1.78-$1.90/kg. Most other lines fetched $1.67-$1.77/kg, Jersey $1.45-$1.46/kg.

Sheep numbers paled in comparison. Prime lambs sold for $70-$118, mixed-sex store lambs $72. Ewes traded at $12-$50, with a line of 2-tooth earning $68.
