Dallas Lucas from Southernwide Real Estate said offers over $20 million were invited, excluding shares, for the property that milks about 1500 cows and was targeting 620,000kg milksolids (MS) this season.

“It’s all flat contour with outstanding access and layout, quality pasture and rising levels of production,” he said.

The farm sits adjacent to the Wallaceville service centre and school, just 15km from Invercargill and employs a manager, five staff and casuals, accommodated in two houses on the farm and three houses in the town.

Strong alluvial soils lie beneath the flat contour, with 510ha forming the milking platform and the entire farm is split into 106 paddocks. The typical regrassing programme covers 25 to 30ha/year and so most of the property has been regrassed in the past eight years.

In a typical season, 600 bales of balage are made on the farm for crop paddocks and this year 17ha is in swedes and 25ha in young grass. Supplements are also bought in each season and typically include 250 to 300 tonnes drymatter of silage, 150 to 200t of Sargeant Dan pellets and up to 150t of palm kernel if needed.

At the heart of the farm is a 72-bail rotary dairy with Milphos plant, Double K cup removers, automatic teat sprayer, Protrack and a yard capacity of 600 cows.

Its effluent system has a 90-day holding pond with a concrete-lined weeping wall that leads to two travelling irrigators. Beyond the dairy is a 30t feed silo, a large woolshed and covered yards for the calves, a four-bay implement shed/workshop, a five-bay haybarn, a stand-off area and a calving pad.
