Chief executive, Wayne McNee, who came to the co-operative in August last year, has appointed a new-look senior management team in line with LIC’s aim to be a $1 billion revenue earning co-operative by 2025, through the “Toward 2025” strategy.

The two most significant faces to move on from LIC are long time genetics manager, Peter Gatley, and chief operating officer, David Hemara. Both their positions were disestablished as was that of communications manager, Clare Bayly.

Other staff changes were made across the spectrum of its operations to positions such as the general manager positions for sales, international, farm systems, human resources, and technology.

LIC said the move aimed to improve alignment, accountability, and agility. There was an intention to deliver greater focus on solutions and emerging markets, and an increased presence in the South Island.

The broad-ranging changes had an impact on 58 positions, and created 78 new positions in one of the widest ranging changes to the co-operative in a number of years. The new leadership team includes both internal and external appointments with two notable external appointments. This includes a management position for emerging markets and innovation taken by ex-Fonterra manager for mergers and acquisitions, Simon O’Connor.

The new general manager for NZ markets, David Willis, has come to the position as former managing director of Arrow Pharmaceuticals NZ.
