Rare grazing opportunity

A 214ha farm at Cannington in South Canterbury that has been used for dairy grazing and cattle finishing for a few years is now for sale.

Kurt Snook from Farmlands Real Estate said dairy runoffs in the more summer-reliable parts of South Canterbury were becoming harder to find and the Cannington farm had the combination of contour and regrassing, as well as benefits from a new land and water plan.

The farm flows over easy rolling to medium contour with some steeper faces and gullies, all split into 130 main paddocks for convenient dairy heifer grazing, with electric fencing throughout.

Some laneways already access paddocks, with 70% of the farm regrassed since 2002 and growing quality pasture on the Ophua silt loam soils. It now has 8ha in kale with the balance in pasture.

Snook said the vendor, who followed a rotational grazing policy, estimated a seasonal carrying capacity of about 1000kg liveweight a hectare.

Stock water is sourced from the Cannington/Motukaika Scheme, allowing the farm up to 18,000 litres a day and 145,000 litres of storage.

Ample farm buildings include a four-bay hay/implement shed and two three-bay hay/implement sheds, while steel and timber cattle yards have a head bail and load-out race.

A tastefully modernised four-bedroom concrete-block home is set in elevated and established grounds, with a near-new in-ground pool adding to the property's appeal.

The farm has a deadline sale date of July 28 with possession suggested for late winter or early spring. For further information on the farm, contact Snook on 03 687 9629 or 0272 560 449. It can be viewed at www.crtrealestate.co.nz ref TU10260.
