The farm adjoins the Riverton Racecourse where it sources some of its grass supplements, and flows over flat terraced contour on good productive soils to the Aparima River on its northern boundary.
A well-formed central lane accesses the 28 paddocks and leads to the 30-aside straight rail herringbone dairy with its Waikato pulsators, in-dairy grain feeding and 330-cow yard. A free-stall barn built in 2015 can house 350 cows while a separate calving pen has loafing mats and an automatic effluent scraper.
Two large concrete bunkers adjoin the free-stall barn.
This past winter 330 cows were kept in the free-stall barn and 56 yearlings were wintered on crop.
The barn was built to future-proof the property, along with an effluent upgrade that includes a separator and Permastore tank consented until 2029. Effluent goes through a stone trap to the separator and then the tank before being pumped to underground hydrants to irrigate the top terrace paddocks.
Two quality family homes on the farm include a six-bedroom house that has undergone refurbishments and extensions, and a three-bedroom house built in 2001. Other buildings on the farm are a large calf-rearing shed and a three-bay concrete block shed.
John Hay from Southern Wide Real Estate lists the quality of the buildings, opportunity for production growth, location and recreation on its boundary as the property’s main attributes.
