Production is still increasing on a 197ha Manawatu dairy farm that is milking 340 cows for a budgeted production of 135,000kg milksolids (MS) this season.

The farm at Glen Oroua, south of Feilding, stretches over predominantly flat land with two small sand ridges running through it. Production has been steadily increasing by 5% each year for the past three years.

Over those three years it has averaged 125,436kg MS with limited inputs of about 1000kg DM a cow. The average production for the district is 900-1000kg MS/ha, indicating potential for the farm to further increase production.

Two hundred cows are wintered on the farm with the balance wintered on a runoff. Four paddocks sown in turnips will be sown in permanent pasture before the farm changes ownership.

The focus of the operation is the 30-aside herringbone dairy, while other buildings include three five-bay haysheds, a calf-rearing shed, an old woolshed, an implement shed and various

utility sheds.

Four houses are spread around the farm and include two four-bedroom homes and two two-bedroom cottages.
