Paper timesheets a thing of the past

Agri-tech company Agrimap has launched a real-time digital timesheets feature, which will give farmers a simple solution to a long-term, pressing issue.
Reading Time: < 1 minute

Many New Zealand farms lack adequate time recording measures, which sometimes leads to employees being paid less than minimum wage.

“In the past, smaller, family-owned and operated farms with no outside labour might not have needed to keep adequate time and wage records. However, in some cases this culture has carried on and is still taking place today in larger farming operations with multiple employees,” Andrew Hoggard of Federated Farmers says.

In the dairy industry staff tend to work sporadic hours, which are particularly heavy during calving. Seasonal averaging is common and can mean they are paid less than their calculated hourly rate.

Hoggard says farmers often have difficulty keeping track of hours because of the lack of a designated work space and a physical door.

Many farmers use paper timesheets and hand them over every week or fortnight to be processed. “Farmers are sometimes doing the maths themselves which can lead to mistakes,” Hoggard says.

With Agri360 Timesheets farmers can log in anywhere and at any time to log hours, which overcomes the issue of physically ‘clocking in and out’ of shifts. The data is stored in the cloud.

Tony Walters from Plainvue Farms says the timesheets will allow him to have his employee hours in one place, “rather than having to rummage through piles of paperwork”.

He notes the value it will have for his accountant.

“By giving them access to my Agri360 account, my accountant will be able to follow up any information they need and have access to real-time data about my farm, instantly.”

Soon Agrimap will release an integration with third party software such as MYOB, which will allow the platforms to talk to each other.
