The arrival of Toepfer stock feed into the New Zealand market is bringing a multitude of benefits to NZ farmers.

After arriving with boat-loads of palm kernel, just as the drought began, to help alleviate the tight NZ situation, they are now bringing in a multitude of other products including tapioca, Golden distillers dried grains and corn gluten feed pellets (CGFP), direct from origin to farmer.

The Golden DDGs is a major step forward for NZ farming because previously there had been only one importer in a tightly-held monopoly market.

The recent shipment of Golden DDGS was bought from United States company Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) which owns 80% of Toepfer and recently reached an agreement to buy the remaining 20% stake.

While these products are offered only in North Island the plan is to soon offer them in the South Island.

General manager Ross Bowmar says “Toepfer are excited to be getting such a positive response from NZ farmers and hence are looking at further expansion opportunities”.

One reason for the positive response is the high level of vertical integration – ownership of the product stays with the company longer than most supply chains.

This equates to enhanced supply security and more competitive prices.

Toepfer and ADM will be at the Field-days site PB37 selling palm kernel, DDGS, CGFP and tapioca.
