Mattresses and mats

There is a huge array of mattresses and mats available to farmers for cubicle beds. Mattresses are often filled with rubber while others are waterbeds increasing the level of cushioning. Straight rubber mats are usually topped with additional bedding such as sawdust to try to minimise hock lesions and absorb any moisture. The test of cow comfort is to drop down onto your knees from a standing position and feel the level of padding the mat or mattress provides. There’s often a compromise between durability and comfort and farmers often cautioned that rubber matting on outdoor cubicles could absorb moisture.
