Many options in Tararua

Irrigation from the nearby Fonterra factory is one of the many bonuses on a well-presented 250-cow dairy farm for sale near Pahiatua that produces a four-year average of 81,000kg milksolids (MS).
Reading Time: 2 minutes

The 80 hectare farm and neighbouring 44ha runoff lie 2km south of Pahiatua in the Tararua district and 40km from Palmerston North in an area known for its favourable dairying climate.
Ian Ross from PGG Wrightson says the farm’s best production was 86,400kg MS, achieved on a low-cost system which includes maize grown on both the runoff and milking platform for silage.
“It’s very well presented – they’ve done a great job. It’s well-fenced, with good water and they have the irrigation system in conjunction with the newly completed Fonterra factory at Pahiatua that spreads the tanker wash over the farm. It’s an underground system that is being expanded and will provide more coverage.
“Pahiatua is traditionally reasonably summer-safe and this irrigation adds some certainty.”
The dairy unit flows over flat country with extensive hedge plantings for shelter for the 46 main paddocks that include a 19ha lease block.
Cows head to a 20-aside herringbone dairy at milking which has a 250-cow yard leading into it and a standoff pad adjacent.
A 20 tonne molasses tank sits beside it, while other facilities include a six-bay implement-hayshed, a three-bay calf-hay shed and a small calf-rearing shed which are all in good order.
Next to the four-bedroom home is a two-year-old two-bedroom self-contained unit, a one-bedroom sleepout and three-bay garage with an upstairs rumpus room, all set in established grounds.
Across the road on the runoff, five titles and two houses provide future subdivision potential close to Pahiatua. The two four-bedroom homes have been rented out in recent years, adding extra revenue for the farm.
The flat contour over much of the runoff that merges into rolling country provides additional farming options such as finishing livestock, bull beef or livestock trading. A good range of farm buildings on this block include a three-stand woolshed, a four-bay implement-hay shed, and sheep and cattle yards.
Both the dairy farm and runoff are offered for sale by private treaty with a deadline date of January 28, unless sold before.
