LETTER – Farmer subsidies

Avatar photo
Surely the time has come for Fonterra to tell the Government it won’t accept any new suppliers until the world learns that to produce more milk, the price will drop. If it costs $5 for an average farmer to produce a kilogram of milksolids why is Fonterra selling 150 million litres of milk to Goodman Fielder and up to 50 million litres to other overseas companies at $4/kg?
Reading Time: < 1 minute

In fact, farmers are subsidising these overseas companies in New Zealand.

Somebody has got their numbers wrong and it isn’t me.
