Sitting about 20 minutes south of the West Coast town the farm was originally set up with a conversion in mind and has been wintering dairy cows, grazing close to 400 young stock through summer and producing nearly 1500 bales of balage.

Greg Daly from Greg Daly Real Estate says the block is handy for Canterbury farmers and is available for this winter with a cover of about 2000 tonnes of drymatter a hectare.

“There’s a big shortage of wintering blocks in Canterbury and this one is well set up for winter.”

About 200ha is effective grazing with a further 86ha of Pakihi soil that could be developed for further grazing. Another 100ha is in native bush.

Much of the land is Hari Hari river silts, with Arahura and Waitahu soils on the terraced land and steeper hills. A major capital fertiliser programme has been in place, with its history and soil tests available.

Daly said the farm had good access with a central race and a new Class 1 bridge over Doctors Creek. Facilities on the farm include a haybarn, cattle-yards and a bushman’s hut.

A gravity system brings water from a 63mm main line, that reduces to 32mm at the bridge to 12 water troughs in the paddocks.

“It’s got rainfall, fertility, grass growth, size, location and potential – it’s got it all.”
