A 258.8ha dairy farm in Central Southland renowned for its consistent, reliable early pasture growth is for sale for $11.95 million.

Wayne Clarke from Southern Wide Real Estate said the farm near Drummond had been converted to a very high standard, starting with 188ha in 2008 and the balance in 2011. Initially they operated it as a semi self-contained unit that is being transitioned to a milking platform.

Last season 550 cows were milked at the peak to produce 256,742kg milksolids and 350 cows were wintered at home on crop and grass supplements made on the farm. Last season that included 350 wet tonnes of wet silage and 200 bales of balage.

The farm is entirely flat contour and subdivided into 100 paddocks with mostly new fencing. The water supply for the farm is from a 100m bore at a depth of 4m producing 17,000 litres per hour. This supplies the 1500 litre troughs with in-line mineral dispenser through 40 and 50mm mainlines to all paddocks.

In the dairy, the 54-bail Waikato rotary platform was built in 2008 and designed to accommodate 60 bails. It has a full Protrack version, a meal and molasses in-shed feed system, automatic cup removers, and a bail gate. Outside it has a 15m circular yard and a Dungbuster scraper, while a new, modern effluent system has storage and then fed out to an irrigator through underground hydrants.

Farm sheds are numerous with a woolshed, calf shed, implement sheds, and workshop, and two of the larger sheds are used as standoff pads.

The main homestead is a large two-storied, three-bedroom family home with extensive garaging in a magnificent garden setting. Staff are well catered for between three other houses that include a brick and roughcast four-bedroom homestead, a six-year-old three-bedroom brick home, and a two-bedroom cottage.

"This farm is a property with ‘wow’ factor. The conversion was completed to a very high standard and these farms are very rarely on the market. All the hard work has been completed and it will provide a new opportunity to the new owners to maximise the productivity from here on."

The farm is 8km from Drummond, 10km from Otautau and 25km from Winton.
