Prime cattle numbers didn’t crack 50 head, and prices remained steady on the back of limited numbers. Prime beef steers earned $2.71-$2.76/kg, Belted Galloway, 518-600kg, $2.64-$2.69/kg. Hereford heifers sold to $2.68-$2.70/kg, other lines $2.62-$2.67/kg. Single numbers of prime cows came forward, but sold well. Herefords returned $2.11/kg, other lines $1.81-$1.94/kg.

A very small offering of store lambs sold for $50-$90, while prime lambs firmed to $95-$115.

Keen buyers were active on a smaller offering of store cattle on Wednesday, and prices for the better types firmed. Features included Hereford-Friesian R2 steers, 386-487kgs, which sold for $1090-$1390 at $2.82-$2.86/kg. R2 heifer numbers were limited but the best of the bunch were Hereford-cross and Hereford-Friesian, which earned $2.64-$2.68/kg, though one small line of forward Charolais, 453kg, sold for $1280, $2.83/kg. Run-with-the-bull Friesian heifers sold well for what they were at $780-$890, $2.05-$2.10/kg.

Weaner lines were very small but the market strong, with the top steers earning $655-$775, and the next cut $440-$530. Friesian bulls made $385-$785 and the best of the heifers $600-$710. Hereford-Friesian heifers, 98-118kg, sold for $392-$462, Friesian, 135-150kg, $285-$322.

A small offering of mainly dairy cows finished off the day, with the better Friesian lines making $1.71-$1.77/kg and second cut $1.62/kg.
