Farmers can check their production and quality data for the last 10 days of milk collection, along with month and season-to-date summaries.
“Feedback is fantastic; farmers are very mobile and want to be able to access information anywhere,” Fonterra manager of supplier programmes Sonya Crosby says.
The co-operative will add more depth and breadth to the app’s capabilities as they go.
They will look at farmers’ suggestions on the Fencepost forum.
“There is a list of suggestions as long as my arm already and this is really helping us with prioritising future development,” she says.
The app has been very popular. Farmers have been saying it’s nice to have information at their fingertips.
Originally 50 farmers volunteered to be part of the app’s pilot trial on iPhones. The number soon increased to 450 through word of mouth.
Many farmers have also signed up to be part of the app’s Android phone pilot which is under way.
