Feilding prime sale March 21

Avatar photo
Prime cow numbers were reduced at Feilding on Monday with processing space tight and a regular buyer absent. As a result prices eased by 20cpk for the better cows, and 10cpk for the boners. Most Friesians, 490-578kg, made $1.60-$1.73/kg.

There were a few extra heifers but they varied in weight and condition and reflected in values. The best 410-520kg sold for $2.46-$2.48/kg.

The bull market remained steady with most 675-805kg at $2.70-$2.80/kg.

Both prime lamb and ewe numbers were well down on last week, perhaps because of the short week.

Lamb prices remained steady despite the reduced numbers, because a significant number were a little plain. The best lambs equalled last week’s top price of $118.50.

Several pens of light ewes were offered, though the market for light to medium ewes had a slightly firmer tone. Top ewes made $67-$73, medium $53-$67.50, light $37-$51, lesser sorts $27-$30. Ewes run-with-the-ram sold for $55-$71.
