Dairy cows – both in-milk and in-calf – helped bump up numbers to some extent, and sold on a relatively steady market. In-calf Friesians sold for $1.78-$1.80/kg, while other Friesian lines, 425-559kg, made $1.62-$1.79/kg. Angus and Shorthorn-cross, 525-550kg, earned $1.87-$1.97/kg.
All heifers were local trade or store types with Hereford-cross and Angus, 355-390kg, making $2.40-$2.46/kg, and Hereford-Friesian, 370kg, at $2.60. Bull and steer numbers were very low.
Prices eased slightly for a smaller offering of calves, despite good demand. Hereford-Friesian bulls sold for $300-$350, with good heifers at $200-$240. The better Friesian bulls made $200-$260 medium types $160-$180.
Finished lambs are hard to find and numbers continued to fall. This only heightened demand with good prime types trading at $84-$115, with a small top end selling up to $140. Store lambs returned $71-$98. Top ewe prices lifted $3 to $57-$77, while lighter lines were steady at $41-$52.
