Coalgate sale October 27

It was a quiet day at Coalgate on Thursday with 1500 sheep and 297 cattle offered. The cattle pens included some top-quality lines that were well sought-after.

New season lambs made a small appearance and sold well, with store making $75-$86, prime $104-$135. Prime hoggets were firm at $105-$130, with heavy ewes making $90-$104, medium, $70-$87, light $50-$61.

Well over half the prime cattle section was cows, and prices were strong. Heavy beef and dairy lines made $1.86-$1.94/kg, and up to $2.05/kg, medium $1.59-$1.79/kg. Heifer prices eased, with heavy dairy returning $2.49-$2.56/kg, better-yielding but lighter lines, $2.70-$2.78/kg. A small offering of steers mainly earned $2.87-$2.90/kg.

Beef-exotic and traditional lines of good quality featured in the 1-year pens. Charolais-Angus steers, 380-410kg, made $1400-$1420, Angus, 276-319kg, $990-$1160. Heifers also sold well, with Charolais-Angus, 335-366kg, returning $1090-$1140, Angus, and Angus & Angus-Hereford, 240-396kg, $790-$1205.
