Coalgate sale June 30

Thursday’s yarding at Coalgate rose to a more reasonable level because of a lift in store lamb numbers after a limited offering last week.
Reading Time: < 1 minute

The market for store lambs was solid. Most made $90-$100 while the rest achieved $84-$89. The bottom end of the sale earned $70.

A decent consignment of breeding ewes was well sought-after and most fetched $127-$130.

The lighter prime lambs firmed, but there was some weakness in the heavier lines. Prices were evenly spread from $91 to $130. There was firm interest in the prime ewes. Good lines were $80-$89, medium $70-$79.

There was another minimal offering in the cattle pens, though they were a little higher than the last sale. The prime cattle market was steady to slightly weaker.

Per-kilo rates across the steers were extremely narrow, with 475-700kg virtually all making $2.89-$2.92/kg.

There wasn’t quite the top-end in the heifers as last week, with 470-600kg lines earning $2.72-2.81/kg. However, a large number were lighter. Lines 372-405kg fetched $1.78-1.80/kg, 346-363kg $1.50-1.52/kg.

Cows were steady at $1.78-$1.88/kg for 500-624kg, $1.66-$1.74/kg for 412-493kg.

Store numbers were limited and mostly dairy types. R1 Angus bulls, 282kg, made $3.16/kg, R2 Angus-cross heifers, 360kg, $2.69/kg, but other lines were much weaker.
