Celebrating Tasmania’s success

Each year Tasmania celebrates its success stories through the ANZ Tasmanian Dairy Business of the Year Award.
Reading Time: < 1 minute

This year’s winners are Nigel and Rachael Brock who farm at Montana in Tasmania’s central north.

Since taking on the full management of the family property in 2006, Nigel and Rachael have developed the dairy enterprise from 142ha milking 250 cows to a milking area of 190ha milking 730 cows.

They have recently invested in a feedpad and a third centre pivot irrigator will soon increase their irrigated milking area from 60% to 95%.

The couple live by their philosophy of doing it right and spend a lot of time planning and creating a pleasant and profitable environment to work and live.

The people side of the business is a significant priority for them with attention given to the working hours, clearly defined roles on the farm and regular team and individual meetings.

Nigel and Rachael are a good example of how analysis of the business, identification of profit drivers, training and the do it right attitude can result in a top performing and continually improving dairy business in Tasmania.
