With continuously variable transmission and cutting-edge, on-board technology, the new Claas Arion 600/500 CMATIC is arguably the most advanced, efficient, versatile and comfortable mid-range tractor available in New Zealand.

Group product manager for Claas Tractors Dave Knowles says the new specification is a “game changer” for the German marque’s most successful series since entering the tractor market in 2003.

“This means continuously variable transmissions are now available on 15 different models across three series spanning 145 to 410 hp.

“More importantly, it signals that Claas is developing its own capabilities in CVT design and manufacture.”

Claas elected to develop a bespoke transmission for the ARION 600/500 platform. The company spent more than €40 million developing the new transmission, including more than 30,000 hours of pre-production testing and retooling its factory in Paderborn, Germany.

Knowles says Claas has shown a high level of commitment to the project

“I doubt if any other manufacturer can boast this level of R&D into a single component.

“The end result is arguably the most efficient CVT transmission on the market.”

Knowles says the new transmission is outstandingly efficient in delivering power to all four wheels and front and rear power take-off at all engine speeds and in all conditions.

“In addition, it has three driving modes – automatic, drive stick or manual – all of which can be activated on the move.”

The new CMATIC configuration is available across the entire Arion 600/500 series, which includes four six-cylinder models (158 to 184hp) and three four cylinder models (145 to 165hp).

“All told, Arion 600/500 offers a range of technology, comfort and user friendliness normally only found in high-horsepower tractors.

“With four-speed PTO, 8500kg rear linkage lift and optional front-end loader and front linkages, it ticks all the boxes for performance, efficiency and versatility.

CMATIC models also feature the intuitive Claas Electronic onBoard Information System (CEBIS), initially developed for Lexion and Jaguar harvesters.

It has provision for up to six electronic spool valves – four rear and two mid-mount valves.

“CEBIS has everything you need to make your work as productive and as easy as possible,” Knowles says.

“Up to 20 functions can be adjusted with just three fingers via the multi-function lever and control terminal which are integrated into the right armrest.”

Arion 600/500 can also be fitted with the GPS Pilot or Claas Cam Pilot for crop rows, swaths and tramlines, enabling the driver to use the full working width and concentrate on the machine settings.
