A 72ha dairy farm for sale near Winton in Southland is targeting 80,000kg milksolids this season and has resource consent to increase cow numbers.

Located on Limehills Browns Rd, the entirely flat farm is milking 210 cows this season and has a consent in place for 250 cows until 2020. Effluent is pumped through a weeping wall to a 90-day storage pond.

Andrew Patterson of PGG Wrightson in Invercargill said most of the farm had been regrassed in the past 10 years, with 3.7ha in young grass this spring on soils that are mostly Pukemutu. Added to that is 400kg/ha of 20% potassic super with soil tests showing a pH of 6 and an average phosphate level of 36.

Mature macrocarpa trees shelter the western side of the property, which is split into 18 paddocks by mostly new tanalised post and two-wire electric fences.

Cows are wintered off the farm, Patterson said, returning in time for its August 10 start to calving, when the farm kicks into action again.

An 800m central lane serviced the entire farm, leading to a 20-aside herringbone dairy built in 2010 with DeLaval plant and a rectangular yard for 250 cows. A full set of farm buildings supports the dairy, including a three-bay hay barn, four-bay hay barn and a three-bay implement shed, while home base is a three-bedroom brick house.

The farm has a deadline treaty of October 31 and the sale excludes Fonterra shares. For further information contact Patterson on 03 211 3144 or 027 434 7636, or visit www.pggwre.co.nz.
