Wellsford store cattle May 2

A large yarding of about 1100 store cattle of all description were set for sale at Wellsford on Monday. Though the sale started late and began with a subdued tone, it improved as the steers progressed and it turned out to be generally good.

R3 steers largely traded for $2.65-$2.78/kg, while Hereford-Friesian, 300-450kg, made $2.87-$2.98/kg. There were not many bulls but 33 R2 Friesians, 303kg, sold for $3.20/kg.

R3 heifers were mainly $2.55-$2.64/kg and Hereford-Friesian R2 heifers, 314-330kg, $2.76-$2.84/kg.

A good number of cows were offered and sold right up to value. Angus cows, 466-572kg, managed $1105-$1405 and Angus-cross, 547kg, earned $1545.

There were a large number of weaners which continued to sell to good demand.
