Now for sale, the Quailburn property includes 720ha that has been developed into lucerne and grass mixes before flowing up on to the lower hill country direct-drilled or oversown.
Lucerne has been a key factor for the farming operation on the flats and lower hill country, with the fine, sandy loams ideal for the crop and other supplementary feed crops. Brassica and ryecorn were also grown for winter and summer.
Barry Meikle from Southern Wide Real Estate said the property has been run as a trading block that buys in lambs to finish. In the past few years the owners have had an extensive development programme in place aimed at improving the infrastructure, pastures and stock water to increase production as well as allow better stock movement.
